Obituary Project
Our volunteers have digitized the obituary collection in the Genealogy Department of the Shreve Memorial Library. The obituaries in this extensive collection have been donated by researchers over the years and have been placed on CD in Adobe searchable files.
This comprehensive index is for the CDs that are available in the Genealogy Department at the Broadmoor Branch of the Shreve Memorial Library located at 1212 Captain Shreve Drive, Shreveport, LA. Please ask a genealogy librarian to assist you with this obituary collection.

Microfilm Project
Over the years, our volunteers have filmed various area collections and placed copies of the films in the Shreve Memorial Library, Genealogy Collection. These films are also located in other library collections, including the Allen County Library and the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.
The collections include:
- Family Records & Histories - submitted by our members in the 1990s (2 Rolls)
- First Presbyterian Church, Shreveport, LA - Various records covering 1845-1943. Also includes Memorial Presbyterian Church (DeSoto Parish, LA), Good Hope Presbyterian, and Beth Presbyterian. (2 Rolls)
- St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, Shreveport, LA - Early Baptism and Marriage Records (1 Roll)
- Osborn Funeral Home, Shreveport, LA - Burial Records 1910-1959 (6 Rolls). (Rolls 1-3) have been indexed by our members. This index is available on our website, has been published in The Journal and also is available on CD at Shreve Memorial Library.
- Claiborne Parish (LA) School Records & History of LA Baptists (1881) - Also contains La School Enumeration by Parishes. (1 Roll)
- DeSoto Parish, LA Court House Records 1843-1910 - Day Books, Successions, Tutorships, and Miscellaneous Other Records (16 Rolls)
- Oil & Gas Lease Affidavits For LA- Includes family histories (2 Rolls)
- Old Washington (Hempstead Co, Ark) - WPA transcripts of Court of Common Pleas Minutes and Circuit Court Minutes 1819-1863 (1 Roll)
Books Published
Friends of Genealogy, Inc. has published the following books. They are available on our website (click on the link). They are also all available in the Shreve Memorial Library Genealogy Collection in print and on CD, as well as in print in several other libraries:
- BEGAT-itudes, a compilation of family group sheets donated by various members over the years.
- Caddo Parish Cemetery Records, Vol. I, transcriptions of various small cemeteries located in Caddo Parish.
- Caddo Parish Cemetery Records, Vol. II, transcription of Centuries Memorial Cemetery in Shreveport LA.
- Caddo Parish Memoirs, a reproduction of the Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Caddo Parish, with an added full-name index.
